KUALA LUMPUR, Dec. 29, 2006/Satnews Daily — The Measat satellite is now being commanded via Measat Teleport and Broadcast Center in Cyberjaya following the successful deployment of the satellite’s reflectors and solar arrays.
Measat Satellite Systems Sdn Bhd, operator of Measat-3, said the completion of this critical stage in the commissioning process of the satellite occurred on December 27 after the satellite had been maneuvered from a Geo Transfer Orbit into a Geo Stationary Orbit and drifted into the 91.0°E orbital location for in orbit test. The satellite has also been successfully orientated towards the earth in its full operational configuration.
“This is the key step in the commissioning of the Measat -3 satellite,” said Dr Ali Ebadi, vice president of Engineering and Operations of Measat. “It was successfully completed with joint efforts of the Measat and Boeing Engineering teams.”
Measat Teleport and Broadcast Centre will manage the satellite during the final stage of the satellite’s commissioning. In this final stage, Measat and Boeing engineers will complete a check on all the satellite’s control and payload systems. After the completion of this testing, expected before the end of January 2007, the satellite will be moved to the operational location of 91.5°E where it will start supporting customer traffic, Measat said..
Astro also congratulated Measat on the successful deployment. Rohana Rozhan, CEO, Astro TV said “This brings us yet another step closer to achieving our planned roll-out of new products and services scheduled for mid-2007. Measat-3's additional transponder capacity offers greater flexibility while enhancing our capacity to grow our offerings to meet the viewing preferences of an increasingly discerning audience.”
The successful launch of Measat-3 will increase by some 300 percent the amount of satellite capacity available from the key 91.5°E orbital location and extend the reach of the Measat network to over 100 countries representing 70 percent of the world’s population, according to the company.
