Telenor Satellite Launches New Satellite Prepaid

OSLO, Norway, and ROCKVILLE, Maryland, Dec. 12, 2006/Satnews Daily/ ― Telenor Satellite Services, a subsidiary of Telenor of Norway (Oslo Stock Exchange: TEL and NASDAQ: TELN), has announced that it is providing Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) Prepaid Voice Calling service and  BGAN Prepaid SIM service.

The two services are the latest additions to Telenor's expanding portfolio of prepaid satellite communications services.

Telenor's Prepaid Voice Calling service uses standard Telenor prepaid calling cards for voice only calls and can be used interchangeably with most other Inmarsat services and Telenor's Satellite Direct value added service that reduces costs for fixed-to-mobile calling.

In addition to the BGAN Prepaid Voice Calling service, Telenor has also launched a new BGAN Prepaid SIM service.  This service, available through Telenor's global network of Service Providers, allows for users to prepay for a range of BGAN services including best available background IP, voice, and SMS applications.  Telenor and satellite operator Inmarsat have established minimum usage and time requirements for this new service option and simplified procedures for adding more time and units to the users account.

“With the addition of these two new services, Telenor now offers a portfolio of three BGAN Prepaid Service options that are designed to give customers maximum communications flexibility tailored to best meet a businesses' specific requirements,” said Anders Kallerud, executive vice president for Telenor Satellite.

Telenor Satellite Services is the only BGAN Distribution Partner to offer Terralink, a proprietary IP networking platform and Global Points of Presence (PoP) Network enabling Telenor's BGAN users to take IP networking to higher levels of performance and capability.

The Telenor BGAN PoP located in Norway is an integral part of the Inmarsat BGAN Core Network and is connected to the Inmarsat Satellite Access Station through high-capacity leased lines.  Terralink enables IP-connectivity for all BGAN services, including the robust new Streaming IP services with guaranteed data rates up to 256 kbps.

Terralink offers a range of service connection options, each with increasing levels of service quality and security.  The premium option enables end-to-end security and guaranteed bandwidth for BGAN users through easy and cost-efficient access to Telenor's worldwide customer interconnect points.
