ILS to Launch Measat-3 Today

 

BAIKONUR COSMODROME, Kazakhstan, Dec. 11, 2006/Satnews Daily/ ― A Proton M/Breeze M is set to launch today (Tuesday, Dec. 12 at Baikonur Cosmodrome) Measat-3 satellite to be operated by Malaysia’s Measat Satellite Systems Sdn Bhd.

 

Launch time will be at 5:28 a.m., Dec. 12, Kazakhstan time; 23:28 Dec. 11 GMT; 6:28 p.m. Dec. 11 EST; or 3:28 p.m. Dec. 11 PST. The Proton launch vehicle will inject the
satellite into geosynchronous transfer orbit, using a five-burn Breeze M mission design.

 

Measat-3 was manufactured by Boeing Satellite Systems and is based on Boeing 601HP platform. When operational, Measat-3 will provide high-powered C-band coverage over more than 100 countries comprising more than 70 percent of the world's population, and DTH-quality Ku-band coverage over 160 million TV households in Malaysia, Indonesia and South Asia.

The spacecraft has 24 C-band transponders and 24 Ku-band transponders and will be located at 91.5 degrees East longitude. It will have a contractual service life of 15 years.
