Iridium Appoints John Campbell as Executive Vice President for Government Affairs |

BETHESDA, Md., Nov. 20, 2006/Satnews Daily/ ― Iridium Satellite LLC has appointed Lt. Gen. John Campbell, U.S. Air Force (Retired), as the company's executive vice president for Government Affairs. Iridium said Gen. Campbell fills a new and important role as the company accelerates its provision of products and services to the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and nearly 40 other government departments, bureaus and agencies.
Matt Desch, chairman and CEO of Iridium, said having been an Iridium customer, Gen. Campbell can help anticipate the government's future needs, as well as today's role for the only truly global satellite communications network that reaches all corners of the earth.
Gen. Campbell joins Iridium from Applied Research Associates (ARA) of Alexandria, Va., where he served as principal, Defense and Intelligence, since 2004. Gen. Campbell joined ARA after retiring from the USAF after a 32-year career. In the USAF, Gen. Campbell served in a variety of operational and staff assignments around the world. In his last assignment, he served as the associate director of Central Intelligence for Military Support for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). In this position, he was the senior military representative at the CIA, serving as the military advisor to the director of Central Intelligence and as liaison between the CIA, the DoD and the Regional Combatant Commanders.
Prior to his assignment at the CIA, Gen. Campbell served from 1998 to 2000 as the vice director of the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) and as the first commander of the Joint Task Force -- Computer Network Defense. From 1997 to 1998, he served on the Joint Staff as deputy director for Operations. Between 1971 and 1997, Gen. Campbell served around the world in a variety of operational assignments as an F-15 and F-16 fighter pilot and commander. In his last operational assignment he commanded the USAF's largest F-15 wing at Tyndall AFB, Fla.
Gen. Campbell is a graduate of the Air War College, Capstone Gen. and Flag Officer Course, Joint Force Air Component Commander Course, Senior Information Warfare Applications Course, and Joint Flag Officer Warfighting Course. He is the recipient of numerous military and intelligence community awards, including the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Air Medal, the CIA Distinguished Intelligence Medal, the CIA Donovan Award, the National Imagery and Mapping Agency Award, the National Reconnaissance Distinguished Medal, and the National Security Agency Award. He is a graduate of the University of Kentucky with a degree in Computer Science and a Masters of Business Administration.
