Apposite Releases New Linktropy Emulator that Simplifies Dynamic WAN Conditions |

LOS ANGELES, CA, Oct. 4, 2006/Satnews Daily/ — Apposite Technologies, Inc. has released its version 2.0 of the Linktropy™ 4500 WAN emulation appliance. Apposite said the new firmware adds the Linktropy Scheduler for testing the effects of dynamically changing WAN conditions on network-based applications.
The Linktropy 4500 emulates WAN bandwidth, delay, packet loss, bit errors, and other link conditions to simulate terrestrial, wireless, internet, satellite and other wide-area networks. An intuitive, browser-based user interface makes it easy to test application and equipment performance under a variety of real-world WAN conditions.
The Linktropy Scheduler is a new, unique feature that expands the Linktropy 4500’s unprecedented ease-of-use to the emulation of WAN conditions that are varying continuously or changing abruptly. The highly flexible Linktropy Scheduler allows any combination of emulation parameters to change over time. Users can specify up to ten separate sets of link conditions and describe the transitions between each set. The Linktropy 4500 automatically runs each set and adjusts the link conditions over the transition period.
The Linktropy Scheduler simplifies the emulation of complex WAN conditions including link outages, variable bandwidth links, route flapping, satellite rain fade and attenuation, wireless interference, and other situations that can affect application performance.
The Linktropy Scheduler can also be used to automate the running of multiple independent tests, making the Linktropy 4500 ideal for use in QA testing of WAN-based applications.
“The fluctuations in bandwidth, delay, and other WAN conditions can have as much of an impact on application performance as the bandwidth or delay itself, and are difficult to replicate on a live network,” said DC Palter, Apposite’s president. “We designed the Linktropy Scheduler to make it easy to emulate the type of dynamic conditions that users experience on real-world networks.”
Apposite said Version 2.0 also adds new packet reordering and packet duplication functionality, and includes expanded statistics and monitoring capabilities. The new emulation features, according to the company, are useful for verifying that applications and networking equipment properly handle out of order and duplicate packets without inducing stability or performance problems.
