Globalstar Boosts Satellite Data Service in U.S. |

MILPITAS, Calif., Sept. 13, 2006/Satnews Daily/ — Globalstar, Inc. has partnered with software and communications company, OCENS, to launch a new comprehensive suite of data services.
Globalstar said OCENS Mail, WeatherNet and GRIB Explorer products are now available to Globalstar subscribers in the United States, providing optimized email transfer speeds and important weather and ocean information services via the Globalstar satellite network.
OCENS Mail for Globalstar will provide satellite customers with the capability to transfer emails 20 times faster than when using standard email software. The program is optimized for the Globalstar network, offering virus scanning, filtering and mail forwarding services and works with existing email services such as Outlook Express.
OCENS WeatherNet will provide customers with the capability to access some 20,000 weather related products including; weather charts, satellite imagery, sea surface temperature, sea surface height, currents and other ocean data, text reports and a vast collection of specialized gridded binary (GRIB) weather and ocean products through OCENS GRIB Explorer software.
“The OCENS suite features improved data compression rates with effective data transfer speeds of up to 38 kbps, bringing significant potential cost savings to our customers,” said Dennis Allen, senior vice president of US sales and marketing for Globalstar, Inc.
Globalstar currently packages its satellite mobile and fixed units with free trial versions of each of the new OCENS products along with its standard Express Data compression tool.
