GERMANTOWN, Md., Sept. 6, 2006/Satnews Daily/ ― Hughes Network Systems, LLC has signed a contract with broadband carrier Swan Slovakia to deploy Hughes' AIReach AB9400 point-to-multipoint broadband wireless system.
Hughes said Swan will operate the AB9400 LMDS system in their licensed 26 GHz spectrum to complement their existing legacy LMDS system. The AB9400 offers full QoS and greater IP throughput than other 3.5 GHz and 26 GHz broadband wireless alternatives, allowing Swan to address the growing market for higher capacity services. Installation of the system is planned to include most cities in the Slovak Republic.
Hughes’ AB9400 system complements Swan’s WiMax services, which are targeted for customers who need DSL-type bandwidth, said Lubomir Gelo, chief technical officer of Swan. “The higher speed AB9400 platform will be for customers who need more than 2 Mbps service or guaranteed bandwidth. The combination of dynamic bandwidth allocation and Hughes' dynamic adaptive modulation, allows us to further penetrate a demanding broadband market and to provision a customer with high capacity at very economical costs,” he added.
“With advanced bandwidth allocation schemes and QoS processing, our AB9400 system will enable Swan to serve up to 10 times the number of customers in its allocated spectrum compared with other LMDS systems,” said Vinay Patel, senior marketing director, Terrestrial Microwave Division, Hughes. “And compared to DSL service (which has zero or low guaranteed QoS), Swan will be able to offer higher speed services with guaranteed QoS, such as 5 Mbps guaranteed throughput with 30 Mbps burst rate,” he continued.
