HAUPPAUGE, N.Y., July 11, 2006/Satnews Daily/ ― NATO has awarded Globecomm Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: GCOM) and EMS Satcom, a division of EMS Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: ELMG) as a major sub-contractor, a $7.8 million contract to provide a Multi-National global positioning satellite-based friendly force tracking system (FTS).
The FTS will employ EMS Satcom satellite real-time eNcompass PDT-100 (packet data terminal) system with Insite Technologies geoOps(TM)AVL software platform, to assist NATO with the monitoring, command and control of deployed forces, which will assist with the identification of friendly versus enemy forces and help prevent fratricide or "blue-on-blue". The system will be combined with Globecomm's broad system integration capabilities.
According to Globecomm, once deployed, the FTS will support the needs of NATO and is easily expandable to include thousands of vehicles, and high levels of tracking data and messaging traffic. NATO will have the ability to identify where its personnel are located at all times, identify other multi-national forces and have the ability to do so in routine and operational situations.
“Our global business is based on the vast experience of our engineers and our holistic approach to information technology solutions,” says David Hershberg, chairman and CEO. “Expanding our services to include satellite communications through this program is a great opportunity for Globecomm to be involved with leading-edge systems that are critical to military communication and operations on the ground.”
