GERMANTOWN, Md., June 20, 2006/Satnews Daily/ — Wisconsin telecom provider Nsight Telservices has contracted Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HNS) to supply its AB9400 LMDS system and will implement Hughes' AB9400 28 GHz point-to-multipoint/ point-to-point (PMP/PTP) LMDS system to provide up to 30 Mbps of bandwidth for mobile and fixed network requirements in Wisconsin.
Nsight Telservices is the license holder of the LMDS-A spectrum in several Basic Trading Areas (BTAs) in Wisconsin and is also a CDMA2000 cellular operator in the region. “By deploying the Hughes AB9400 equipment, we can meet our FCC usage requirements to keep our spectrum license and reduce our dependency on leased lines at the same time,” said Michael O'Malley, Nsight Telservices project manager.
Thomas Hsu, senior vice president and general manager, Broadband Carrier Networks at Hughes, said “Implementing our proven AB9400 LMDS system enables LMDS licensees to satisfy FCC deployment commitments with little capital expenditure -- while increasing overall network reliability and decreasing dependency on the LEC. Many licensees face an October 2008 deadline set by the FCC and we stand ready to rapidly deliver the market's most cost- effective solution.”
In April, Nsight Telservices deployed several links using base stations with 180-degree antennas. “We are very pleased with the radio performance,” said Paul Harke, Nsight Telservices data network engineer. “In May of this year, Green Bay experienced quite severe weather. We have links at 1.5, 3.2 and 4.3 miles. All links are operating better than expected.”
