ISCe Honors Hughes with Industry Innovation Award

GERMANTOWN, Md., June 16, 2006/Satnews Daily/ — Hughes Network Systems, LLC received top honors Thursday night at the awards banquet held during ISCe's 2006 conference and exhibition in San Diego, California.

Hughes chairman and chief executive officer, Pradman Kaul, accepted the ISCe Innovation Award in recognition of the company's outstanding accomplishments in bringing satellite services and products to enterprises, governments, consumers, and small businesses globally.

“ISCe is one of the satellite industry's top promotional organizations and we are honored to be this year's recipient of its prestigious Innovation Award,” said Kaul. “Innovation and technological advancement have always been at the core of the Hughes vision and culture, and we deeply appreciate this recognition within the industry.”

Hughes is a technology and market pacesetter. Over twenty years ago Hughes invented VSAT (very small aperture terminal) technology and commercialized satellite networks, delivering the first large-scale VSAT network to Wal-Mart. In June of 2005, the editors of Fortune magazine called the decision to utilize Hughes' satellite technology as one of the top twenty decisions that “shaped the modern world of business.”

The ISCe awards recognize exceptional achievement in various categories which include Innovation and Technology, Industry Leadership, Education Excellence, and Lifetime Achievement. Nominees for the awards are culled from the industry and the final selections are made by the ISCe Advisory Board.

Hughes was the first to offer broadband satellite Internet access and the first to offer two-way IP-based satellite services. Today, there are approximately 300,000 consumer and small business subscribers throughout the US that are customers of HughesNet high-speed satellite Internet access- available continent-wide at affordable rates, with new subscriber growth exceeding 10,000 per month.

Early in 2007, Hughes will usher in the next generation of satellite communications with the launch of the SpaceWay 3 satellite, the world's first on-board switching satellite system. Even by conservative estimates, the Hughes SpaceWay next-generation technology will expand the addressable market by four times or more.
