PETAH TIKVA, Israel, June 1, 2006/Satnews Daily/ ― Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. (Nasdaq: GILT) has won a contract to provide communications equipment and services to Angola Telecom, one of the largest operators in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Gilat said it will provide an integrated redundant satellite solution to expand the existing fixed and cellular backhaul infrastructure. This will include efficient satellite modems equipped with higher-level modulation and advanced forward error correction that reduce satellite transmission costs.

Nir Korman, sales director for Africa of Gilat, said that in the last two years, Gilat has invested a special effort to offer efficient backhaul solutions to cellular operators, enabling quick deployment of cellular infrastructure to remote communities.

“In the Angola Telecom network, our satellite hub station will provide a redundant solution and will facilitate the expansion of an existing cellular backhaul, thus, enhancing the network's capacity. This deployment illustrates Angola Telecom's confidence in our ability to provide an advanced satellite integrated solution and leading technology for the region,” Korman said.
