NEW YORK, April 6, 2006/Satnews Daily/ ¾ Sirius Satellite Radio (NASDAQ:SIRI) announced on Wednesday the availability of a marine weather data service featuring on-demand access to detailed weather information for the boating community.
Sirius said its Marine Weather Service will first be available over the E-Series high performance multifunction navigation displays from Raymarine.
“This is the first time that Sirius is integrating a data information service into marine electronics products, and we are very pleased to be working with Raymarine to make this service a reality,” said Larry Pesce, Sirius senior vice president of services.
He said Sirius’ extensive nationwide satellite footprint, combined with its ability to cover hundreds of miles off the U.S. coasts, makes the service unique to boaters. “Our current offering will provide no less then 14 data elements ranging from weather radar to buoy reports,” he said.
Available for purchase only in the U.S., the Sirius Marine Weather Service coverage includes the 48 contiguous states and waters extending hundreds of miles into the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean.
Using the new Raymarine SR 100 satellite weather receiver module, boaters will now have a wide range of advanced forecast information available to them, including the WSI NOWRad(R) weather radar, featuring storm tracks, sea surface temperature, wind, surface pressure, wave heights, lightning and much more. The E-Series navigation interface will enable boat captains to view the Sirius weather data alongside radar, chartplotter and fishfinder functions.
