Helius Inc. Taps Satellite Technology to Train JCPenny’s 150,000 Employees in 1,100 Locations

LINDON, Utah, March 29, 2006/Satnews Daily/ — Retail giant JCPenney (NYSE:JCP) has selected Helius Inc.’s satellite- and terrestrial-based network solution to deliver corporate training to more than 150,000 employees throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.

As JCPenney continues to grow with more than 1,000 locations, the company said it needed a more cost-effective and time-efficient model for distributing training to its employees. Helius said its customizable MediaGate Router 4550 and the Helius MediaClassroom solution package now provide JCPenney with the ability to centrally control its training programs and distribute the same message to all 1,019 locations simultaneously via satellite.

“By implementing Helius' MediaClassroom solution, we will be able to repurpose our synchronous training and make the same class available to associates when it is most convenient for them while maintaining the same interactive format. Store supervisors will no longer have to tape the 'live' class to share with associates who may be working different shifts. And, we will centrally control what gets recorded, and maintained at the store level,” said Deborah Masten, vice president of Associate Development for JCPenney.

Helius said the company provides a fully interactive live and on-demand training system. This system replaces JCPenney's DVD- and CD- based training delivery model with an on-demand classroom that allows employees to receive the appropriate messages at their leisure. Helius' system also allows JCPenney to track associate training progress through an embedded learning information system that automatically captures trainee progress, test scores and program completion.
