MOSCOW, Feb. 2, 2006/Satnews Daily/ — The Intersputnik International Organization of Space Communications announced on Wednesday the start of commercial operation of its wholly owned subsidiary Intersputnik Holding Ltd., an international group of satellite service providers that will offer full-scale services including satellite and ground segments and establishment and maintenance of regional and international networks for governmental and private customers.
Intersputnik Holding Ltd. was established in December 2005 in April 2005 at the XXXIII session of the Intersputnik Board where it approved a phase-by-phase privatization, closer cooperation among its members and signatories, and restructuring of Intersputnik’s executive body. It also agreed on greater cooperation within the organization in providing modern telecommunications services based on Intersputnik’s satellite resource.
“Intersputnik boasts many years of experience in establishing and operating satellite communications networks with high customer service quality,” says Intersputnik director general Vadim Belov. “It has close partner relations with telecommunications operators and manufacturers of satellite systems all over the world.”
He said diversified activity and adoption of up-to-date business models will allow Intersputnik to greatly expand the range of its services and improve the quality of its service.
According to a statement, Intersputnik Holding will direct a group of licensed satellite service providers who represent a variety of markets and states. Already, Intersputnik Holding has established partnership with Isatel, a licensed operator in Russia. Another partner is Bosphorcom, a European satellite communications operator that implements and operates full-scale projects in the EU and Eastern Europe.
Intersputnik Holding said more providers, including companies from other regions, are expected to join the group through acquisitions and establishment of affiliates in countries with the most attractive markets.
Founded in 1971, Intersputnik is an international intergovernmental organization of 25 member countries operating an international system of satellite communication that provides telecommunications services to broadcasters, telecom operators and corporate customers via a fleet of geostationary satellites.
