Tuaropaki Communications Taps ViaSat Satellite System for Broadband Services in New Zealand

DULUTH, GA, Jan. 19, 2006/Satnews Daily/ — Tuaropaki Communications Ltd. of New Zealand has selected ViaSat Inc. to provide a turnkey satellite communication network, including a complete hub antenna system, for Tuaropaki’s Inzonecorp satellite broadband Internet service.

Rural Inzone uses satellite to deliver affordable and accessible broadband service to business and residential customers throughout New Zealand. The network is scheduled to be completed and commissioned by the end of February.

Tuaropaki said it plans to offer Internet access, voice over IP, video distribution, disaster recovery and virtual private networks through the ViaSat LinkStar network, which replaces older VSAT technology. The new network is designed to download data at speeds up to 3 Megabits/second and upload from remotes at up to 1 Mbps. Satellite capacity is provided by the newly launched SES AMC-23 satellite.

“We believe this is the market leading technology and is a good foundation for a long term relationship,” said Charlene Parsons, business manager at Tuaropaki Communications. “We’re also looking forward to the increased capacities and efficiencies of the ViaSat DVB-S2 technology.”

ViaSat is supplying the full hub system including antenna, radio frequency electronics and a new low-cost fully featured redundant C Series LinkStar Hub. The C Series hubs enable more customers to access advanced LinkStar technology by cutting the entry price for a satellite network by as much as 50 percent.

The hub also features a single-rack design that initially supports up to 500 network nodes (upgradeable to 8,000), but still includes all the powerful LinkStar VSAT features for fast return link access, bandwidth efficiency, user-friendly network management, IP acceleration, and networking.
