L-3 Appoints Dr. William Johnson President of Advanced Systems Business |

NEW YORK, Jan. 9, 2006/Satnews Daily/ — L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) has promoted Dr. William Johnson to president of its Advanced Systems division, succeeding Robert J. Whalen, who has retired from this position but will continue to serve L-3 as a corporate technical advisor.
With over 25 years of experience, Dr. Johnson, age 50, was most recently vice president and general manager of the Advanced Systems business, a position he held since November 2004. Prior to that, Johnson served for nearly ten years as an Army Program Manager affiliated with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) on a variety of advanced development programs, including the Future Combat System and several advanced tactical trainers.
Johnson also served as a director of International
Cooperation with the Joint Military Affairs Group in Korea, serving as
the U.S. Embassy manager of government-to-government military
co-development and co-production projects. Dr. Johnson also held a
number of senior staff positions within the U.S. Army from 1984 to 1991,
when he retired with the rank of Colonel. L-3 said Whalen will also continue to serve Advanced Systems as an advisor on development initiatives.
