HAUPPAUGE, N.Y., May 25, 2005/Satnews Daily/ — Globecomm Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: GCOM-News) has unveiled a new 0.77m lightweight, rapid deploy terminal for secure broadband communications.
The 0.77m Auto-Explorer carry-on satellite communications terminal is a compact self-contained system that is composed of two suitcases, which meet the requirements for airline cabin baggage, according to Globecomm. One person can easily set-up the terminal in less than 15 minutes and the system's Auto-Acquisition and Terminal Management software allows operation of the terminal by personnel with no satellite communications background or any specialized test equipment.
Globecomm said the terminal, which can receive Internet Protocol (IP) data rates ranging from 64 kbps to 9.1 Mbps and send IP data rates ranging from 64 kbps to 2 Mbps, is suited for tactical support of military and peacekeeping forces; for remote access to networks; telemedicine applications; remote distance learning; remote Internet access; satellite news gathering; or any other application where reliable, remote, rapidly deployed operation is essential.
David Hershberg, CEO and chairman, said Globecomm continues to improve and enhance the company's Auto-Explorer line of satellite communication terminals. “Just ten years ago it was unthinkable to visualize a terminal, which could achieve these IP data rates and meet airline requirements for cabin baggage,” he said.
