RESTON, Va., May 19, 2005/Satnews Daily/ — Mobile Satellite Ventures (MSV) revealed on Wednesday the grant of another comprehensive patent for fundamental aspects of the company’s ancillary terrestrial component (ATC) technology.
The patent, the sixth in a series of wide-ranging patents, covers systems and methods for coordinating space-based and terrestrial use of satellite frequencies for a satellite/terrestrial hybrid network.
MSV said the patent covers both band segmentation and/or frequency reuse between the two components of the hybrid network. This recent ATC patent issued, Coordinated Satellite-Terrestrial Frequency Reuse (US Patent 6,892,068), has 149 claims and brings the total number of claims for MSV patents to over 800.
“MSV is without question the technology leader in the mobile satellite business. Through the hard work of our great engineers, MSV is setting the technical standards for the next generation of wireless mobile systems that combine the best of satellites and terrestrial systems,” says Alexander H. Good, vice chairman and CEO.
“Our intellectual property portfolio will continue to grow as the additional 70 pending U.S. patent applications regarding all aspects of ATC networks including space segment, terrestrial segment and wireless terminals are issued,” he said.
MSV is developing the next generation hybrid wireless network that will use a powerful satellite constellation working in unison with MSV’s patented ancillary terrestrial component (ATC) technology to deliver seamless wireless services to end-users over standard wireless devices. The MSV investor group includes Motient Corporation (Pink Sheets: MNCP), SkyTerra Communications (OTC: SKYT), TMI Communications, Columbia Capital, and Spectrum Equity Investors.
