Preparations for
Arianespace's upcoming Ariane 5 launches have moved into a new phase
with the arrival of one of the missions' payloads at the Spaceport in
French Guiana.
Arianespace said the Syracuse IIIA satellite arrived at Rochambeau
International Airport in Cayenne last week and was immediately
transferred by road to Arianespace Spaceport's clean room facilities.
The spacecraft was transported aboard an Antonov An-124 cargo aircraft.
According to an Arianespace statement, the Syracuse IIIA spacecraft will
be prepared for launch on Flight 166 or Flight 167 - two of the four
Ariane 5 missions planned by Arianespace during the upcoming months.
Syracuse IIIA was built by Alcatel Space using a Spacebus platform that
carries a powerful communications payload in the SHF (super high
frequency) and EHF (extremely high frequency) bands. The satellite will
provide telephony, telegraphy and data transmission services in either
automatic or manual modes, linking military users on land, at sea and in
the air. |
