GlobeCast Launches New Platform on Intelsat Americas |

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, April 5, 2005/Satnews Daily/ — GlobeCast has launched a distribution platform on the Intelsat AmericasTM-13 (IA-13) satellite for digital cable television networks.
The launch, Globecast said, marks the company’s first platform in North America on an Intelsat satellite. TVE Internacional America, a division of Spain’s TVE Internacional, is the first programmer broadcasting on GlobeCast’s service, now distributing a mutiplex of TVE video and audio networks.
GlobeCast’s service offers programmers distribution access to over 90% of digital cable subscribers via the IA-13 satellite’s reach, which currently includes over 3,000 digital cable head-ends in the U.S.
New channels joining GlobeCast’s platform will share the same cable orbital position with other established programmers on IA-13 including: The Biography Channel, DIY (Do it Yourself) Network, iN DEMAND, Playboy, Trinity Broadcasting Network, Lifetime Movie Network, Spice, The Tennis Channel, and others. The service allows cable operators to receive GlobeCast-distributed channels via existing head-end downlink antennas.
GlobeCast receives TVE Internacional America’s feed from Spain and transports it via GlobeCast’s global fiber network to its teleport in Los Angeles, where it provides turnaround to IA-13 for distribution across North America.
GlobeCast’s, 6000-square-foot Los Angeles digital broadcast center serves as the key cable distribution gateway in North America offering a one-stop technical solution for launching and distributing new channels, including program origination, master control, distribution and affiliate network management.
Globecast said channels around the world can access GlobeCast’s IA-13 platform in America via local points-of-presence in New York, Washington DC, and Miami, or worldwide via the company’s global fiber network, which interconnects 15 teleports and technical operations centers on five continents.
