PARIS, March 22, 2005/Satnews
Daily/ — GlobeCast said on Monday it has
begun delivering broadcast content to Digital Terrestrial Television
(DTT) transmitters across France via its platform on the Atlantic Bird 3
satellite.
The company said it is carrying the
largest three DTT multiplexes in France: :R1 (GR1, public channels), R2
(Nouvelles Télévisions Numériques) and R3 (Compagnie du Numérique
Hertzien).
Selected in late 2004 to ensure the satellite transport of France’s
three largest multiplexes to transmitters throughout France, GlobeCast
was also chosen to bring the majority of channels via fiber to all five
of the country’s DTT multiplexes.
GlobeCast receives the R1 multiplex at TDF’s dedicated DTT room in the
Eiffel Tower, and receives the R2 and R3 multiplexes at CanalSatellite’s
Digital Broadcast Center in Boulogne, just outside of Paris. The signals
are then fed via GlobeCast’s Paris technical operations center
(GlobeCast-Archives) to the company’s teleport in Sainte-Assise.
GlobeCast then uplinks the signals to its platform on Atlantic Bird 3 at
5°W in Ku-band and provides space capacity on the satellite.
This project demonstrates GlobeCast’s ability to master crucial
end-to-end solutions, from signal origination to control rooms and
satellite transmission.
“The launch of the DTT project was a true challenge for GlobeCast”,
remarked GlobeCast president and CEO Christian Pinon. “The complexity of
the technical architecture, the number of players involved and the short
deadline for completion meant that a strong collaborative effort among
GlobeCast’s teams was required. We are proud of the positive results of
this project and of its impact on DTT ‘s future success in the French
audiovisual market.”
