GlobeCast Expands Coverage and Presence in Asia

PARIS, March 21, 2005, Satnews Daily/ —  GlobeCast has announced that it has launched a new satellite distribution platform on Telstar 10 to expand its capacity in Asia and has also opened a new liaison office in Beijing to serve the Asian market.

Globecast said its Telstar 10 platform will enable programmers to target cable head-ends and DTH households with superior signal coverage and power over the entire region. From GlobeCast’s gateway in Singapore, the C-Band platform provides access to 70 million homes across 33 countries from its orbital position at 76.5° East, and offers an established neighborhood of premier programmers, including Animax, Disney, The Hallmark Channel and HBO.

GlobeCast’s Singapore gateway serves as the uplink point to the Telstar 10 platform, and is connected by fiber to the company’s 14 other teleports and technical operations centers, thus ensuring one-hop seamless access to the platform from 5 continents. The all-inclusive service available on this platform includes encryption, multiplexing, uplink and space capacity. Playout services are also available.

GlobeCast said it is prepared and eager to meet the rising demands of the Asian marketplace. The company’s new liaison office in Beijing is the fourth bureau for the company in Asia, and reflects China’s role as a key player for international media.  GlobeCast Asia, the regional business unit of GlobeCast, is based in Singapore and currently also has liaison offices in New Delhi and Tokyo.

The expansion of GlobeCast’s presence in Asia reflects the region’s rapid growth as a global economic force. Asia is home to half the world’s population and currently boasts more than 200 million TV homes and 800 cable and satellite channels. The latter is expected to reach 5,000 by 2012.
