General Dynamics Taps CPI Satcom Division for Ka-band TWTAs

PALO ALTO, CA, March 4, 2005/Satnews Daily/ — General Dynamics has awarded CPI Satcom Division a contract for 32 Ka-band traveling wave tube amplifiers (TWTAs) for integration into a ground based satellite system designed to support high definition television (HDTV) services in North America. The 250 watt TWTAs will be installed in General Dynamics antenna hubs to provide final amplification of the uplink signal before it is fed to the transmit antenna.

“We are pleased to see Ka-band applications continue to develop,” said Colin Eastment, director of Business Development for Satcom Division.

Eastment said CPI has been a pioneer in the design and manufacture of Ka-band uplink amplifiers for many years. Recently, CPI created an extensive new line of Ka-band amplifiers to position CPI with the largest portfolio of high power Ka-Band amplifiers available in the industry.

The award was made to CPI by VertexRSI, San Jose Division. The VertexRSI family of antenna systems was acquired by General Dynamics C4 Systems as part of the purchase of TriPoint Global Communications in September 2004. General Dynamics C4 Systems, based in Scottsdale, AZ, is a leading integrator of secure communication and information systems and technology.
