THE HAGUE, The Netherlands, Dec. 23, 2005/Satnews Daily/ — New Skies Satellites B.V. (NYSE:NSE) has donated satellite transmission services for the broadcast of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies anti-malaria campaign from Niger to various television outlets across Europe and the US.
New Skies said the December 19 live television broadcast was part of a massive International Federation campaign, where more than 2 million mosquito nets have been distributed, to ensure every child under five years old, approximately 3.5 million children in total, will be protected against the disease. Dubbed as the "world's biggest Christmas gift", the campaign aims to fight malaria in the West African nation through the use of mosquito nets.
The International Federation has used the donated capacity on New Skies' NSS-7 satellite to provide live shots featuring various International Federation spokespeople and footage of the campaign direct from Niger, free of charge to thousands of television stations all over the world, such as the BBC, ITN, Canada's CBC and CTV, Japan's NHK and Swedish STV. |
