L-3 Appoints Dr. Arthur A. Morrish VP and Chief Technology Officer for Products Group

 

NEW YORK, Dec. 6, 2005/Satnews Daily/ — L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) has announced that Arthur A. Morrish, Ph.D. has been appointed to the newly created position of vice president and chief technology officer for the Products Group.

 

In this position, Dr. Morrish will support the Products Group by reviewing and analyzing all of the Group's research and development efforts. He will also have responsibilities supporting various other technology and research and development initiatives within L-3 Communications. Dr. Morrish will report directly to Charles J. Schafer, president and chief operating officer of L-3's Products Group.

 

Dr. Morrish, 48, has over eighteen years experience as an innovative manager and developer of technical solutions for Department of Defense (DoD) challenges and he was recently awarded the Secretary of Defense Medal for Meritorious Civilian Service. Prior to joining L-3, Dr. Morrish held the position of director of the Tactical Technology Office (TTO) for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). As director of TTO, he was responsible for conducting high-risk, high-payoff advanced technology development focusing on unmanned systems, space systems and tactical multipliers such as high energy lasers, high energy density propellants and hypersonic propulsion systems.

 

Dr. Morrish served at DARPA for eight years, starting in 1997 as a program manager, where he managed programs covering hybrid electric ground vehicles, advanced aircraft and high energy laser systems, as well as a number of classified programs. He served as the deputy office director prior to assuming the position of director of TTO in 2002.

 

Prior to joining DARPA, Dr. Morrish worked at the Naval Research Laboratory as a research chemist, developing advanced infrared materials and thin film synthetic diamonds. In conjunction with his tenure there, he also joined the Office of Naval Research to serve as the deputy program manager for Aviation Low Observables.

Dr. Morrish received his B.S. in Physical Science from Michigan State University and his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Maryland. Dr. Morrish holds five patents related to synthetic diamonds and is the author of over 40 publications.
