MSV Demonstrates New Hybrid Satellite Cellular Technology for Policy Makers

RESTON, Va., Nov. 7, 205/Satnews Daily/ — Mobile Satellite Ventures (MSV) demonstrated on Friday its next generation satellite-based communications systems on Capitol Hill highlighting the critical role of satellite communications for public safety.

MSV led participants through the evolution of satellite technology to its next generation integrated satellite-terrestrial system that will provide reliable and ubiquitous coverage, available to all users in North America, wherever they live, exhibiting a slightly modified CDMA 2000 cellular phone that operates as a satellite phone. Handsets like this use a terrestrial network when they are in urban areas or indoors, but communicate directly with a satellite wherever the terrestrial network does not reach.

“MSV's vision is to launch the most advanced system ever that will serve all Americans, as well as provide critical services to emergency responders,” said Alexander Good, vice chairman and CEO of MSV. “With this proof of concept, the evolution towards a 'seamless' satellite-terrestrial system is well underway. In the short term, our integrated satellite-terrestrial system will be available to ensure that public safety has communications wherever needed and that all users are connected to the latest communications technologies.”

MSV is a leader and innovator in Ancillary Terrestrial Component (ATC) technology. MSV's comprehensive issued patent portfolio includes over 800 issued and 500 additional published ATC patent claims to date. These 1300 issued and published claims span the breadth of all ATC network features, functions and system components (including the satellite, terrestrial, satellite gateways and end user equipment).
