ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., Oct. 19, 2005/Satnews Daily/ — Arrowhead Global Solutions and Norsat International Inc. announced on Tuesday that they have joined together to deliver the revolutionary GLOBETrekker backpackable broadband satellite system.
Under this teaming arrangement, Arrowhead will market the Norsat GLOBETrekker and provide the first line of customer support to certain U.S. military forces in the field.
Norsat's GLOBETrekker is an ultra-portable satellite system that enables users to establish reliable broadband connections on short notice anywhere in the world and under the harshest conditions. Designed to be carried in a backpack, GLOBETrekker can be transported by airplane and helicopter. It can even be worn by paratroopers in full parachute gear, according to Norsat.
“GLOBETrekker is highly significant in three areas -- portability, intelligence and durability,” said William Coyne III, president and CEO of Norsat.
He said users need not lug transit cases to move from place to place. Secondly, the GLOBETrekker has a sophisticated sensor-driven system that automatically monitors and adjusts for environmental operating conditions and the unit's rugged features enable it to operate in the most arduous environments.
A provider of commercial satellite products, bandwidth and services for the U.S. Department of Defense worldwide, Arrowhead Global Solutions is constantly engaged in efforts to find the "best in class" technologies that can be used to support the country's warfighters.
The GLOBETrekker supports data transmission rates of up to four megabits per second, says Norsat. It is a highly integrated system, which includes a 1m carbon fiber antenna, RF electronics, motorized azimuth/elevation superstructure, motorized feed assembly, built-in inclinometer, compass, GPS, and a baseband unit with a modem, spectrum analyzer, DVB-S receiver, Ethernet switch, DC-DC converter and a shock-protected chassis.
