ND SatCom to Supply Tactical Satcom System to Swedish Armed Forces

 

Friedrichshafen, Jan. 28/Satnews Daily/ ¾ ND SatCom has won a contract to supply a turnkey tactical satellite communications system with related services for use within the network of the Swedish Armed Forces. The contract, worth approximately $6.51 million (EUR 5 M), was won in strong international competition. The delivery and implementation of an initial six units will take place in 2005/2006.

 

ND SatCom said the Tactical Satcom System (TSS), based on the company’s technology for defense customers, offers, besides classical telephony, also fax and data services and seamless IP network interconnection, even under extreme environmental conditions. According to ND SatCom, the various types of transportable tactical satellite communications terminals will secure the connection between Sweden and the regional headquarters of international missions via military or commercial satellites in C-, X- and Ku-band.

The system is highly modular; easy to deploy FlyAway antenna systems are packed for transport in specifically designed cases, whereas the shelter-based "Pop-up" units are supplied with a mounted, fully automatic, motorized antenna, said ND SatCom. It added tThe baseband equipment is transported and operated in climate-controlled cases which enable operation of commercial of-the-shelf (COTS) communications equipment within a harsh tactical environment.
