Globecomm to Support the National Weather Service's Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y., Sept. 16, 2005/Satnews Daily/ — Globecomm Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: GCOM) has been selected by Raytheon Company (NYSE:RTN) to support the National Weather Service's Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS).

Raytheon said it anticipates a five-year $5 million subcontract and would include an additional five years in follow-on options, which if exercised would bring the total contract value to more than $11 million.

AWIPS is an interactive data processing system that integrates all meteorological and hydrological data, and all satellite and radar data and enables the forecaster to prepare and issue more accurate and timely weather forecasts and warnings. Raytheon Information Solutions won a ten-year contract worth up to $300 million for the operations and maintenance, optional product improvements, and software maintenance and support of AWIPS.

Raytheon selected Globecomm as a key contractor to support the satellite broadcast network (SBN), which includes satellite datacasting operations and National Weather Office site satellite equipment maintenance.

Ken Miller, president of Globecomm Systems Inc., said for the next ten years, Globecomm expects to work closely with Raytheon in assuring that the SBN part of the AWIPS program remains on the cutting edge as technology advances. “We hope to expand our relationship into other areas with Raytheon where Globecomm's satellite expertise complements the broad range of capabilities Raytheon possesses,” he said.
