PanAmSat to Distribute Venevision Continental’s International Channel; Inks Deal with T-Systems for World Cup 2006 Delivery Solutions

 

WILTON, Connecticut, Sept. 11, 2005/Satnews Daily/ — Venevision Continental, a company of the Cisneros Group, one of Latin America's leading broadcasters, has selected PanAmSat (NYSE: PA) PAS-9 Atlantic Ocean Region satellite as its international distribution platform.

 

PanAmSat said the deal expands the already strong alliance between the company and the Cisneros Group taking advantage of PanAmSat's video capabilities and multichannel platforms to reach an unrivaled community of cable operators throughout Latin America and Europe.

 

Carmen Gonzalez-Sanfeliu, vice president of Latin America Operations for PanAmSat, said the contract reinforces that PAS-9 has the best cable penetration in Latin America. “With an aggregate of more than 250 television channels, PAS-3R and PAS-9 are the platforms of choice for programmers who need full cable head-end penetration for Latin America,” she added.

 

Launched on August 28, 2000, Venevision Continental is a Cisneros Group pay TV network designed to provide highly rated Spanish-language programming. Built with the Cisneros Group's production and broadcast expertise, Venevision Continental offers the best productions in Latin American entertainment and news programming. It includes well-known novelas, talk shows, magazines, variety shows, and special events, among others. Venevision Continental airs a broad variety of leading regional news programs from Latin America and the Caribbean.

 

Meanwhile, PanAmSat said it had achieved a marketing alliance with T-Systems, an official broadcast partner with Host Broadcast Services (HBS) for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, for a joint telecommunications delivery solution for the 2006 World Cup event to be held in Germany. The accord includes the intention to bundle several of both companies' resources including satellite capacity, fiber networks and teleports.

 

“This alliance with T-Systems allows both companies to share their resources to bring broadcasters the most-watched sporting event in the world,” said Catherine A. Palaia, vice president, PASport Services, PanAmSat. "With new technologies such as HDTV gaining popularity, it is crucial to be able to deliver the signal in all its clarity and color. By teaming up with T-Systems, PanAmSat will ensure it captures every high-def moment of the World Cup.”

 

PanAmSat said it will contribute satellite capacity, conditional access and compression gear while T-Systems will share its satellite dish farm and Usingen, Germany teleport, Telekom Global Network (Fiber) as well as its Mobile SNG trucks throughout Germany.
