L-3 Communications Acquires Joseph Sheairs Associates |

NEW YORK, Sept. 2, 2005/Satnews Daily/ — L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) has acquired Joseph Sheairs Associates (JSA), a software engineering firm specializing in highly technical engineering and related services in support of Air Traffic Control (ATC).
L-3 said JSA, which was acquired on August 12, 2005, is expected to generate sales of approximately $25 million and be accretive to L-3's earnings in 2006. The business will be part of L-3's Government Services Group, which is led by president and chief operating officer Carl Vuono, and will report to the company's ILEX Systems, Inc. subsidiary. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Founded in 1993, JSA has offices in New Jersey, Washington, DC and Florida, JSA provides technical support, test and evaluation, systems maintenance, prototype evaluations, and laboratory support services to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Supporting the Department of Defense (DoD), JSA has performed weapons systems safety and test engineering for the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and U.S. Army, improving interoperability in a joint environment aboard U.S. Navy ships. JSA is also an installer and maintainer of ATC equipment for state, municipal and contract tower facilities across the U.S.
“As a leading provider of ATC support, JSA is complementary to our Aviation Products business and is a highly specialized engineering provider in the growing airport services market,” said Frank C. Lanza, chairman and chief executive officer of L-3. “Recently, JSA has expanded its work to include the DoD and we look forward to developing this aspect of their business under L-3 and to capitalizing on the services synergies it has with our ILEX business,” he added.
