EMS Wins Major Satellite Payload Contract

MONTREAL, Sept. 2, 2005/Satnews Daily/ — EMS Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq ELMG) announced on Thursday that its Space & Technology/Montreal Division has been awarded a contract from MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (MDA) of Richmond, B.C, Canada, to provide the Cascade information delivery payload for the CASSIOPE multipurpose information delivery and scientific research satellite.

EMS said the Cascade information delivery system will be a “courier in the sky” system, capable of uploading gigabytes of data to the satellite, storing the data on-board and subsequently downloading the data as the satellite passes over a distant ground station.

Under the terms of the $22.89 million (CND $27.1 million) contract, EMS will provide the Cascade CX information delivery payload based on Ka-band communication technology. EMS will design, manufacture, assemble and integrate a variety of payload units and subsystems, and will perform the payload system design, assembly, integration and test at its Space & Technology/Montreal division's facilities in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec.

EMS said it had been conducting work on this program under an Authority to Proceed in anticipation of contract award. EMS expects to complete the work over the next 22 months. The payload will be delivered to MDA for integration with the CASSIOPE spacecraft at the end of second quarter 2007, according to EMS.
