Stockholm, SWEDEN, Oct. 7/Satnews Daily/ -- The US Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) has certified the SWE-DISH Satellite Systems, Inc.’s FA150T Mil Fly-Away terminal (AN/USC-67) for x-band. The certification gives FA150T the distinction as the world's smallest tri-band terminal, said SWE-DISH.
SWE-DISH said DISA spent several months of rigorous evaluation before granting the product a certificate for operation on the Defense Satellite Communications System's (DSCS) x-band space segment. The evaluation included both extensive live tests, as well as several long-term trials, said SWE-DISH.
It added FA150T passed all the verification tests at the DISA Satellite Communications Engineering Laboratories in Ft. Monmouth, NJ, on the first iteration, something that is rare in equipment testing and certification. It is the smallest terminal ever certified by DISA, and by that the world's smallest certified tri-band system, claims SWE-DISH.
The combat proven FA150T system is designed from the bottom up to be a rugged, easy to transport and quick to deploy satellite earth terminal. It gives tri-band satellite communication capabilities to mobile command posts, tactical units, and theatre broadcast elements. Data capability ranges from 64 kbps to 60 Mbps and allows for IP encrypted traffic. The FA150T also features tracking of inclined orbit satellites
For users in the US Department of Defense this means that they, with the small sized tactical FA150T, can access all the DSCS's x-band resources. This gives a near global coverage. When X-band is not available the terminal can also use Ku- and C-band satellites. The FA150T's X-band capability is also extra valuable in the light of the imminent launches of new hot X-band satellites by e.g. Loral, and satellites such as Syracuse III, XTAR, SkyNet 5.
"Our users want to combine compact size and high portability with full space segment flexibility. The FA150T and the DISA certification gives them this opportunity", says Lars Jehrlander, CEO of SWE-DISH.
