Azerbaijan Joins Intersputnik

MOSCOW, Russia, Oct. 1/Satnews Daily/ — The Republic of Azerbaijan has joined the Intersputnik International Organization of Space Communications. In May 2004 Azerbaijan's decision to join Intersputnik was approved by the Milli Mejlis (Parliament) and last month, the depositary-government represented by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs received the instruments of ratification of Intersputnik's regulatory documents by Azerbaijan.

An Intersputnik's delegation headed by Director General Gennady Kudryavtsev met last Wednesday in Baku with Ali Mamed oglu Abbasov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Communications and Information Technologies, who signed the Operating Agreement of Intersputnik. Parties to this Agreement are national telecommunications organizations appointed by the governments.

During the visit, Abbasov and Kudryavtsev discussed the current situation on the satellite communications market in the region, Azerbaijan's government policy in the field of information technologies, and the interaction of the Telecommunications Administration of Azerbaijan with Intersputnik. Intersputnik's delegation was received later by Azerbaijan Prime Minister Artur Tahir oglu Rasizadeh.

Established in 1971, Intersputnik is an international intergovernmental organization headquartered in Moscow. Its mission is to contribute to the strengthening and development of economic, scientific, technical and cultural relations by communications as well as by radio and television broadcasting via satellites.
