SiRF Joins iNavSat Consortium in $2.69 Billion Galileo Concession Bid |

SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 17/Satnews Daily/ — SiRF Technology Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:SIRF) , a provider of GPS-enabled silicon and software location platforms, has joined the iNavSat consortium in its bid to secure the $2.69 billion (euro 2.2 billion) concession to deploy and operate Europe's Galileo advanced satellite navigation system.
San Jose, California-based SiRF joins the three principal partners -- Inmarsat Ventures plc, the Thales Group and EADS Space -- in the iNavSat consortium.
SiRF provided valuable data and insight on the mass-market rollout for the Galileo Concession, which was submitted to the Galileo Joint Undertaking on September 1, 2004.
Kanwar Chadha, founder and vice president of marketing for SiRF Technology said he believes the combination of Galileo and GPS systems represents a major market opportunity for enhancing location-based services. |
