ViaSat Names Former Assistant Secretary of Defense John Stenbit to Board of Directors |

CARLSBAD, Calif., Aug. 31/Satnews Daily/ — ViaSat Inc. (NASDAQ:VSAT) has appointed John P. Stenbit to the ViaSat Board of Directors.
Stenbit is nationally recognized for his expertise in developing crucial defense information systems, leading Defense Transformation initiatives at the Department of Defense (DoD), and applying systems engineering to solve complex problems at large organizations. Stenbit will stand for election to the ViaSat Board of Directors at the company's 2006 Annual Meeting of Stockholders. The ViaSat board now totals six members, five of whom are independent directors.
Stenbit was appointed Assistant Secretary of Defense for Command, Control, Communications, and Intelligence (C3I) on August 7, 2001, then became Assistant Secretary of Defense of the C3I successor organization, Networks and Information Integration/Department of Defense Chief Information Officer. He has led the transition to information-centric warfare including creating information systems to support intelligence and operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Stenbit initiated the Counter-Intelligence Field Activity to allow DoD to interface with multiple agencies to share information needed to pursue terrorists in the United States and abroad. Additionally, he developed a new Information Assurance architecture to support an Internet system to enhance Network-Centric Warfare. Stenbit represented the United States at NATO on issues relating to communications and information assurance.
For more than three decades, Stenbit held various management positions at TRW Inc., a diversified company that provided high technology products to the space, defense, information systems, and automotive markets. During his tenure as executive vice president, he successfully secured investments for the execution of a breakthrough technology in broadband wireless communications.
John Stenbit holds a B.S. degree in engineering and an M.S. degree in electrical engineering from the California Institute of Technology.
