Eagle Broadband Renames Satellite System, Unveils New Services

LEAGUE CITY, Texas, Aug. 26/Satnews Daily/ — Eagle Broadband, Inc. (AMEX:EAG) has renamed its Orb' Phone Exchange non-line-of-sight satellite communications repeater system to Satellite Media Access Extender or SatMAX. The company also announced that it has received certification for additional SatMAX models and that it is launching a suite of turnkey, application-specific services.

The new SatMAX models and Solution Bundles target government, military, homeland security, first responder, maritime, aviation and commercial customers to allow them to quickly and easily make fully wireless, voice and data communications available to multiple concurrent users in non-line-of-sight environments anywhere on Earth. Eagle Broadband says SatMAX enables highly reliable, disaster-proof, routine and mission critical communications that can improve safety and security, emergency preparedness and response, user productivity, mobility, problem solving and mission support.

According to Eagle, its SatMAX repeater lets customers create non-line-of-sight, satellite communications wireless hotspots or "SatSpots" that allow multiple concurrent users of low-earth-orbit satellite networks such as Iridium to use their existing satellite phones or data terminals to make wireless calls within SatMAX-enabled coverage areas including inside buildings or structures; onboard vehicles, aircraft or ships; from obstructed areas or underground, etc. Eagle has received certification for the ten-concurrent-user Portable, Fixed Structure and Aeronautical models.

Randy Shapiro, Vice President of Marketing said the company is launching SatMAX Solution Bundles in direct response to specific needs expressed by partners and customers for the highest demand applications. “A growing number of customers are turning to Eagle's SatMAX to provide their users with highly reliable, satellite-based, non-line-of-sight voice and data communications," he said.

Specific SatMAX Solution Bundles include:

  • Emergency/Backup Communications Bundle -- ideal for customers in need of highly reliable, routine or mission critical emergency or backup voice and data communications in the event of power failures, primary communications systems failures, etc.

  • Fixed Structure Bundle -- ideal for enabling reliable satellite-based voice and data communications in existing buildings, plants, hangars, manufacturing facilities or other critical infrastructure.

  • Disaster Preparedness/First Responder Bundle -- fully packaged communications solution for the immediate provisioning of uninterrupted voice and data services at incidents, crime scenes, disasters, or other emergencies.
