Starz Names Edward Huguez Executive Vice President, Sales

 

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Aug. 26/Satnews Daily/ — Starz Encore Group, LLC,  president and CEO Robert B. Clasen has announced the appointment of Edward L. Huguez to the post of executive vice president, sales, for Starz effective Sept. 1.

 

Huguez comes to Starz from Midstream Technologies, Inc., where he served for three years as president, CEO and chairman. Midstream is a Seattle-based company that provides interactive and video-on-demand technology to cable television companies.

 

From 1992 to 1998 Huguez worked for DirecTV as vice president and general manager, new media and interactive programming and platforms group, and, prior to that, as vice president, programming acquisitions. He was part of the executive team that launched DirecTV in 1992.

 

Huguez began his career in the multichannel industry working for ESPN in affiliate sales from 1987 to 1992. His experience also includes service from 1998-2000 as chief operating officer at Intervu, Inc., a pioneer in video streaming on the Internet for such companies as CNN. In 2000 Intervu was acquired by Akamai Technologies, Inc., where Huguez served as senior vice president.

 

Huguez will fill the position vacated by Clasen when he was promoted to president, COO earlier this year. Clasen noted that he has known Huguez for more than six years and served on the board of advisors for Midsteam during Huguez' term as head of the company.

 

Huguez received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Arizona State University in 1980 and his MBA from the John E. Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA in 1992. He and his wife, Betsy, have two children.
