Nine Network Taps Tandberg Television for Digital News Gathering

Sydney, Australia/August 5/Satnews Daily/ — Tandberg Television has secured a contract to equip the Nine Network, one of Australia's leading free-to-air digital television providers, with an advanced digital electronic news gathering (DENG) solution in the world today. The system, which includes Tandberg Television's technology, will be used for live local news and event coverage across Nine's diversified broadcasting territories.

Nine Network owns TV stations in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Darwin and is a leader in news, current affairs, sports and entertainment, broadcasting to millions of Australians everyday. This year, the network will create and deliver more than 4000 hours of locally produced programming, a lot of which is filmed out in the field for live news, event or sports reporting.

Nine Network is currently using analog microwave links to bring this footage back to its studios but is now turning to digital ENG to not only meet its new frequency allocation needs, but also to enable it to use a more sophisticated, reliable and flexible news gathering system that will enhance its local programming and extend the broadcaster's news gathering reach.

“We are confident that we are deploying the most advanced Digital ENG solution in the world today, and Tandberg Television is a major part of that,” says John Gilpin, Broadcast Engineer with the Nine Network.
