WILTON, CT, August 2/Satnews Daily/ —
PanAmSat Corp.’s (NASDAQ: SPOT) wholly owned subsidiary, PanAmSat do
Brasil, Ltda., has entered into a multi-year transport agreement with
Rede Internacional de Televisão, RIT, Brazil's leading cultural and
educational television network. Under the agreement, RIT will utilize
capacity on PanAmSat's PAS-9 Atlantic Ocean Region satellite to develop
new markets and significantly expand the geographic reach of its
programming.
"We welcome RIT to PAS-9,” said Carmen González-Sanfeliu, vice
president, Latin America operations, adding PanAmSat is the emerging
premier distribution satellite for broadcasters and data communications
providers in Brazil as well as all of Latin America. "The satellite's
comprehensive footprint, reaching thousands of cable operators
throughout the Americas and Europe, combined with its C-band payload
enables broadcasters in this region to deliver high-quality video
content, such as live events and television programs, to new audiences
in the Americas, Caribbean and Europe.”
PAS-9 also serves as a key delivery medium for
telecommunications and business applications such as VSAT services and
mobile data communications through its Ku-band payload.
RIT is owned by Missionary RR Soares, one of the most prominent
religious members of Brazil's Evangelical Church, and is already
distributed by several cable operators in Brazil. Its programming is
currently viewed by over eighty million viewers in 1,200 cities and
features such quality shows as Show of Faith and Young Movement.
"Thanks to PanAmSat, we can now bring our
programming to individuals and families in other parts of the world,"
says Missionary RR Soares.
PAS-9, a Boeing 601 HP model satellite employing 24 C-band and 24
Ku-band transponders, operates at 58 degrees west longitude and offers
comprehensive coverage of the Americas and the Caribbean. The satellite
serves more than a dozen of the world's most prominent international
broadcasters and programmers who deliver their content throughout the
Americas. |
