EMS Technologies Satcom Division Names Stephen M. Newell to Director, Military Sales

 

FARNBOROUGH, England, July 19/Satnews Daily/ – EMS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq – ELMG) has named Stephen Newell as Director of Military Sales, Satcom Division.

 

Newell has more than a decade of experience in the field of airborne, satellite and military communication systems. In this new role, he will be located in Washington, D.C., and will manage the sales activity for aeronautical satcom systems to the world’s military and government customers. He has worked at EMS as Senior Account Manager for the Aeronautical Group for the past 2 years, representing EMS's products to Gulfstream, Lockheed Martin and the US Navy.

 

Prior to joining EMS, Newell was Manager of Avionics Systems at AIRIA, Inc. Annapolis, MD, where he was responsible for the development of a live aeronautical television system utilizing the Inmarsat satellite network. Prior to that he was the Product Manager for Racal Avionics, supporting Inmarsat and DBS-TV Satcom Antenna systems. In his early career he gained his engineering foundation serving as a submarine officer in the US Navy.

As part of the THEOS contract, Thai engineers will join the EADS Astrium development team and will attend intensive space program training. This cooperation contract paves the way for further development of GISTDA and space activities in Thailand.

The THEOS satellite payload features both high resolution in panchromatic mode and wide field of view in multispectral mode and has been tailored to Thailand’s specific needs with a worldwide imaging capability. It will be launched mid 2007 on a sun synchronous orbit at an altitude of about 820km.

This is a major achievement and the third export cooperation contract in the field of Earth observation signed by EADS Astrium in Asia after the ROCSAT-2 satellite, built for the Republic of China, successfully launched in May 2004 and the KOMPSAT-2 satellite for Korea.
