Gemstar-TV Guide Names Mike McKee Chief Operating Officer

 
LOS ANGELES, April 27,  2004/Satnews/  Gemstar-TV Guide International, Inc. (Nasdaq:GMST) announced today it has named Mike McKee chief operating officer of TV Guide Consumer Electronics. In this newly-created role, Mr. McKee will oversee day-to-day worldwide business operations for the TV Guide Consumer Electronics division, which develops and markets Interactive Program Guides (IPG) and Plus Code recording systems for incorporation into consumer electronics products, including digital televisions, digital video recorders, and DVD recorders. Mr. McKee will be based in Gemstar-TV Guide's Bedford, MA office and will report to Doug Macrae, president of TV Guide Consumer Electronics.

Mr. McKee was most recently president of TV Guide's satellite businesses, including the Superstar/Netlink Group, UVTV, and SpaceCom, which were purchased by EchoStar Communications this year.

Gemstar-TV Guide's consumer electronics products are distributed in nearly 40 countries. The IPG is marketed as TV Guide On Screen in North America, G-Guide in Japan and Guide Plus+ in Europe. Plus Code brands include VCR Plus+, Show View, Video Plus+ and G-Code.

Mr. McKee joined Gemstar-TV Guide in 1997 as president of the Superstar/Netlink Group, which provided television programming to U.S. households with C-Band satellite dishes. He added UVTV television programming distribution to his responsibilities in 1999, and SpaceCom in 2002. Mr. McKee oversaw operations for the three business units, based in Tulsa, OK. Prior to joining TV Guide, Mr. McKee was the chief operating officer for the Bama Companies, Inc., a private food manufacturing company. Earlier in his career, Mr. McKee held various marketing roles with Pizza Hut, Frito-Lay and R.J. Reynolds.

Mr. McKee holds a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma.
