New Satellite Operator, Newsat Launched

Washington, D.C./March 27, 2001/Satnews/ -- Jack Albert announced today the launch of NewSat-USA, LLC, a privately-held company offering international satellite capacity for Internet, voice, data and video services.  The company is the third independently owned and operated satellite company Albert has been instrumental in successfully launching during his 30-year career in the space industry.

NewSat is initially offering capacity on NewSat-1, a Hughes-built C-band spacecraft located at 42.5 degrees East.  Formerly owned and operated as PalapaB2R, the satellite has a unique footprint that provides coverage from as far West as London, to as far East as Beijing.  From North to South, coverage is available from Moscow to New Delhi, and extends to points beyond.

"NewSat-1 is a highly reliable spacecraft with truly exceptional coverage. It is perfect for bulk buyers looking for large amounts of bandwidth at extremely competitive prices," said Jack Albert, President and CEO of NewSat.

"With Internet demand soaring, particularly in the regions this satellite covers, this orbital slot is ideal.  The NewSat-1 capacity is perfect for any company requiring Internet connectivity in a hurry. We can  also transmit voice, data and video services, but the market driver will be Internet traffic," continued Albert.

The new company, based in New Jersey, plans to add to its satellite fleet in the future, and in addition, anticipates the announcement of a major gateway in Europe in the very near future. This gateway will offer access to the spacecraft, as well as international fiber and Internet connectivity. TT&C will continue to be performed by PTT Telekom Indonesia.

"This is the third time I've brought an independently owned satellite company to the market and it feels great. We've got a solid business plan and financing from leading sources in the space industry. It will be a success because we're offering what customers want today: large bandwidth options, low prices, and coverage in areas where demand is outpacing available capacity," Albert explained.

The NewSat-1 spacecraft has 24 C-band 36 MHz transponders plus spares. All primary systems are also available with redundancies.   Battery power is sufficient to run with a full load through the eclipse periods. Its C-band beam center power is 35 dBW. Current inclination is about 0.6 degrees and its anticipated additional lifetime is 8.5 years with inclined station keeping.

"The NewSat-1 satellite is a proven bird, and a great start to our new business," added Albert.

Initial rates on NewSat-1 are being discounted for customers wishing to prepay, with only eight 36 MHz transponders planned to be available at the lower rate.

NewSat USA is a subsidiary of NewSat Holdings Limited of Bermuda. The company offers satellite capacity for international Internet, voice, data and video services.   Its founders are Jack Albert and Robert Wardrop.
