Sudanese Satcom Syndicate Signs On With Arabsat


The Arab Satellite Communications Organization (Arabsat) and the Sudanese Radio & TV corporation have signed an agreement to launch and operate a DTH platform in Khartoum.

Arabsat-5A satellite (Astrium) The Sudanese Radio & TV Corporation will update its station (Om Durman Station – 2) to be ready to receive the Arabsat platform and prepare for operation by the close of this year. Eng. Khalid Balkheyour , President &CEO of Arabsat, stated “Setting up this platform in Sudan in cooperation with The Sudanese Radio & TV corporation aims at providing the required infrastructure for digital satellite broadcasting. This platform will enable a Sudanese bouquet , including all the Sudanese channels transmitted from outside Sudan, to be transmitted from Sudan. This will save operational costs for these channels in addition to benefiting from Arabsat's full coverage of Sudan through Arabsat Badr satellites on its exclusive Hot Spot at 26 degrees East.” He added “Hopefully, this platform will be the first step towards a new Sudanese Media City. Arabsat will be able to cover the entire African continent with the launching of its 5-A satellite by the end of this year.”
