Thuraya-3 Is Commercially Cranked Up
Thuraya has announced the commercial readiness of its third satellite, Thuraya-3. The satellite will cover the Asia-Pacific region. Thuraya-3 and all related ground network facilities started commercial activities on June 9th, 2008. This heralds a new phase in the Company’s expansion and growth towards Asia. The geosynchronous satellite, which was propelled into orbit by Sea Launch in January of this year, underwent rigorous technical testing on all its ground, space, and other related systems to ensure high service quality prior to the commercial launch. The company’s expanded coverage towards Asia-Pacific, including such major markets as China, Australia, Japan, Korea and Indonesia, will double the current market size and population covered by the Thuraya system, bringing two more billion people under its extensive footprint—Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
